The Gift of Flowers
Gifting flowers to a friend or a loved one is such a beautiful way to show them you are thinking about them. Whether they are given in celebration of a birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, the arrival of a baby, as a message for someone who is going through a difficult time to let them know you are thinking of them, or simply as a surprise little ‘I appreciate you’ for no reason other than to tell someone you love them, giving and receiving flowers really does feel warm and fuzzy!
While most of us will picture a gorgeous bunch of fresh flowers when we think about giving flowers, gifting pressed flowers is a lovely and quirky alternative. Pressed flowers can be enjoyed for many years, prolonging the enjoyment for the recipient. Many flowers have wonderful symbolic meanings behind them, which means when choosing a pressed flower gift you can tailor it to suit any message you’d like the portray. For example, forget-me-nots symbolise eternal love, remembrance and devotion making them a truly thoughtful gift for someone who has lost a loved one, whilst lily-of-the-valley represents love and happiness - perfect for expressing love to a friend or partner.
The art of understanding the meanings and language of flowers has a charming name - Floriography - and there are some beautiful books about the subject if you’d like to explore this further. Floriography has inspired my Vintage Locket Collection, where I encase symbolic pressed flowers inside stunning vintage gold and silver lockets - each one is completely unique and such a special way to tell someone you are thinking of them. There are lockets for love, happiness, strength, courage, remembrance, luck, healing, protection and new beginnings.
Whether you choose to gift fresh blooms, or love the idea of putting a twist on it and gifting pressed florals, there’s no better way to say it than with flowers.
