The Best Flowers to Press in Spring

Spring is my favourite season - there’s something so uplifting about the return of the lighter days and the feeling of warm sunshine on my face. It also brings the return of an abundance of beautiful flowers and many of them are perfect for pressing. Lots of Spring flowers have simple forms and aren’t too thick or ‘juicy’, meaning they press really well; forget-me-nots, buttercups, daisies (the type that pop up in your lawn are great for pressing), violas and primulas are all reliable flowers to press. Some more challenging Spring blooms that can be pressed but do require some practice include hellebores, anemones and muscari.

A gentle reminder that to achieve beautiful pressed flowers, it’s really important to use the best equipment - a quality flower press is essential, as are blotting paper and greyboard. With the cooler temperatures of Spring, it can be helpful to double up on your layers of blotting paper inside your flower press, as this will help to draw the moisture out quickly and reduce the risk of your flowers going mouldy.
